Re: The First Marina in Cambodia. Soon

Hi all we just checked out of Cambodia after a great cruise there made all the more pleasant by Andrey and his team. All our formalities were taken care of for us and the cost was less than Andrey stated in a previous post. The marina although not complete all sevices were delivered to us and the power was connected while we were there.sometimes its not what is charged, it is what is not charged for that counts with repairs organized, rides to town drinking water delivered cold beers and good cheer. Thanks again Andrey and we wish you every success with your marina.
Cheers Ian & Alison
P.S.
We used the same tuk tuk driver while we were there and he got quite used to seeking out the things cruisers may need ( Lybon 0975329781)

Good luck with negotiating reasonable fees and procedures to make the place “yacht friendly” as it will seriously impact on your investment

With the prices you gave, the government agencies are sending the message to the world that they do not want yachting tourists. (Or perhaps, some private agencies are just taking advantage of the lack of organization to handle yachts and setting their own high commercial price with tips to Gov. officials)

I have seen the same initially happen in many new destinations, but it is up to the local businesses like yours to make it fair

To give you a comparison with Subic, Philippines:
USD$25 each for Quarantine, Immigration, Customs to clear in, Same Fee to clear out for C&I
(Total $125)
For approx.. $32 the Port Authority issues a 1 year Temporary Tax Free Import Status that allows you to cruise anywhere and you just have to display the sticker and quote that number if asked over radio.
(Total $32 for 1 year)
Grand Total $157
It was not always like that and even now, officials will not tell you the prices… hoping you pay more.

The Subic Bay Yacht Club was instrumental in organizing this first for their members and then to visiting yachts so that it has now become the accepted standard.

One idea…Perhaps, your business/ company description allows you to form a yacht club, where you can then act as agent for yacht club members.
Visiting yachts will then pay a small membership fee upfront and your marina acts as their agent, while in Cambodia.

I hope you can work this out as I would love to sail over from Subic

Re: The First Marina in Cambodia. Soon

We just cleared into thailand across the gulf at Koh Samui and the cost was 200 baht approx$7.00 for 2 people but the islands of cambodia where its a novelty to share an anchorage was worth the extra.
Cheers Ian & Alison

Great to hear you enjoyed it, but I think the last message we ever want to give any government is that we don’t mind being ripped off!

Andrey is trying to start a new business which will depend on repeat customers and he needs to tell the officials that their pricing is way off.

If it is red tape heavy and a rip-off where yachts are treated like commercial vessels, he will not get the repeat traffic he needs to be sustainable.

That is why Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and now Indonesia are simplifying the yacht entry/exit process

Re: The First Marina in Cambodia. Soon

No argument from me here but if I waited there will be resorts everwhere so all Im saying is I'm glad we went when we did. Andrey is lobbying the minister of tourisim as we speak. One cost which is even higher is food ok at the markets for the locals but eating out is expensive compared to other desternations in asia.
Cheers Ian & Alison

Goodbye Nereid

Dear Ian and Alison ,

I hope you get to Koh Samui without problems and with the wind in the sails
I especially interesting passage area between the platforms (which is 100 miles)
Thank you for your kind words. I slowly but stubbornly will build a marina.
** By following your visit, I'll try to be ready with a new experience.

And I ask your permission to copy this message to the website of the marina.
I was glad to meet you and your beautiful boat Nereid

PS: Can I recommend this tuk-Tucker for other boaters?

Many thanks for the information and ideas. I will try to act in such a direction of development. In the meantime, the state agency KAMSAB takes double fee 100+100 dollars. When it officially issued invoice only 100. Agency charged $ 50 and also port charges

I had a talk with the port Harbour Master, and he agreed that it was wrong.
At the moment, the total amount of clearance arrival / departure statistics for the three yachts: 300, 266, 272 usd

Ian, I can not agree with you. You eat at the wrong places
Next time I will show you where you can get a great meal for $ 3 per person, including 2 beers. I'm sure you do not eat a whole plate

Hi
I have everything very well. While the marina is not built .
*We organized sailing cruises to the islands together with Dimitri. Dmitry - your neighbor on a pontoon ( Russian boat from Korea ) . 2-3 times a week we carry tourists to the islands and back, and even fishing . Everybody is excited .
Now I approached the marina boat owner 2 Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cambodia . He bought and did not know what to do next . I'm trying to help him ....
I told him about the problems of sailing ( yacht design big money ) . We have a mutual interest.
I wish you a good way and a good wind.
