Ok - now for some dreaming and LONG range planning.
Next 4 years will be coastal QLD holidays and weekend cruising with the wife and kids. 3 weeks aboard is the max in this phase probably.

I'm starting to consider the first big one away - perhaps 3 months away. Out of Brisbane - what options do I have?
PNG perhaps - however I think the wife would prefer going E or NE.
How far East could I go - what would you recommend?
I understand heading that way is against the prevailing a good period of the time?

Get as much time onboard as you can. 3 weeks is just a little short. Thts when you need more fresh food, water and possibly fuel. You can get stuck in an anchorage due to bad weather for 3-5 weeks. So try and liveaboard bfore you go - it will open up more dramas to sort out with a family onboard.

The Louisiades are only about 470nm from Cairns on a beam reach there( and back). Then the legs to Honiara, Vanuatu, New Cal are similar times offshore. Returning then to Bris or Bundy is about 7ish days. The Solomons may have lots of breeze or none - so lots of motoring and a reputation for the occassional dirty diesel .

Remember a tight sched is risky. We were planning on the Louisiade trip and giving a few months for that return trip.
