Skimbo, Thanks for heads-up, could you tell us where on the West of Coast of Sumatra there too many boats ? Are these cruising sail boats, or boats only there for surfing ?
Not sure what is meant by DONE ? or "near new ground png/sols" ?

I think he's saying it's all played out, all the gold has been mined and now it's a surf park rather than an adventure.
New ground Papua New Guinea, Solomon islands.
Don't know about the boats.

I suppose what he is trying to say is that these places have become full of surfing charter boats not unlike the way the Whitsunday area off Queensland is full of charter bareboats. Like above, instead of Indonesia being an adventure to an unexplored paradise, you are now likely to turn up and find another couple of boats anchored off a “secret” break.
Heaps of blokes I know go over Indo on surfing charters and they are always commenting about having other boats at the breaks they hoped to surf alone. Not saying you won’t find your own waves, but obviously you will also experience some competition with the surf charters.

Re: Sailing to Surf Spots: South Pacific & PNG, Indonesia
Aloha! Myself and a friend will be departing the Hawaiian Islands around April of 2019, headed south for sailing and surfing. Anyone that may want to explore with us when we're in particular regions...drop us a note.

Re: Sailing to Surf Spots: South Pacific & PNG, Indonesia
Hey guys whats'up!
I've been a surfer for way longer than I have been a sailor. Unfortunately, so far, I haven't been able to join them both.
Anyhow, I'd like to refer you to Sail Surf ROAM. They're a lovely couple and they sail the Cat the Capt Mick built around the pacific. Every now and them we write to each other and they're very nice people!
Make sure you get in touch with them and check out their youtube channel, which is awesome.

Re: Sailing to Surf Spots: South Pacific & PNG, Indonesia
Hey folks, we are leaving Sydney for some surf in Indo next month. Would be great to meet some like minded guys doing the same trip. Were a sailing cat with three guys all keen to surf a few reefs and check it all out in general. Drop me a line if youre doing the same. Cheers.

If you can get hold of the latest Air Niugini Inflight magazine, it's got a good article on quite a few surfing spots around the region.
