Does anyone know if people travel more in the 60 to 100 off shore? Or do they travel closer to shore.
I guess I am just a bit confused if you have to go 60 to 100 miles off shore that could take about 10 hours.

We did this trip coastal cruising 3-10 miles off shore. Requires constant watch though. Farther offshore for those doing longer, multi-day legs or to adjust to weather conditions.

10 hours to get 60 miles out in your boat sounds a bit optimistic but I've not sailed it so who knows.

For such a short trip once you leave the Straits for me it would not be worth going out more than 3-5 or maybe 10 depending.

Straits of Juan... Check the NOAA CURRENT charts, current as in speed of not the most up to date. Most people go by the tide to choose but there it's the current you care about. Pick the right current and you'll have a quick trip.

Crab pots can be a PITA and even in off season they are out there having been lost. There is a crab pot "free"zone you can travel down. I'ts more of a crab pot reduced zone in my experience. The commercial tug guys use this route so keep a good lookout not only in front but behind as well.
