Sailing Destinations from Singapore in Late December

Hi All -

I'm based in Singapore with a 33 foot monohull and am planning to do some cruising around Christmas this year. I've only got about 10 days off of work so trying to decide the best place to go given the time constraint.

Since it's NE monsoon season, seems like heading east from Singapore toward Tioman or Anambas is not a good idea. Have heard Phuket/Langkawi/Andaman Islands are great this time of year. But really too far away unless I hire someone to deliver the boat up to Thailand and start from there.

Appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Crew will be myself (experienced) and a couple of relatively new sailors so don't want to put ourselves in any conditions that are too rough unnecessarily.

Thanks

Maybe something on the Indonesian side? Not sure - never been there.

The west coast of Malaysia is the place to be at that time of the year.

Sailing up the straits will mostly be a motor until Klang and other than Melacca itself, there's not really much to see.

If time is more important than budget, I'd get someone to motor the boat up to Klang and then fly up to KL to meet it. Above Klang the sailing begins

If budget is more important - motor night & day up the straits to Klang (but with the return jouney, that will be half your holiday gone).

If there's a weather window, Pulau Tioman is great...not too far.

Thanks - If I do the West side of Malaysia (sounds like weather will be more reliable) I may look into a delivery skipper to at least get the boat up to Klang.

Does anyone have recommendations on delivery skippers in the region?

Contact Sunsail in Langkawi - They'll probably be able to give you a list
