Propane Refill in Sydney

Can anyone tell me where I can get propane tanks refilled in Sydney?

Thanks for the help!

Re: propane refill in Sydney?

Michael,

First, I assume that you are referring to Sydney Australia...

IF so, there should be absolutely no problem getting propane. Most marinas have that facility, as do larger hardware stores, many petrol stations and (usually cheaper) camping supply stores.

IF it is some other Sydney, can't help you.

Cheers,

Jim

Also Barbeques Galore. Last year around this time they had a special on, a 9kg refill for $16. Nicely coincided with us having 3 bottles to refill.

If you could tell us where in Sydney (it's a big place!) we could work out the most practicable place to get your tanks refilled.

OK that would be a big help as I'm on foot (i.e. cruising sailor without a car).

I'm in Pyrmont at Sydney Wharf. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
michael

Re: propane refill in Sydney?

You could try:-
Hardware & Building Supplies 183-187 Harris Street, Pyrmont NSW 2009 (02) 9518 8555

If you look for a store in Pyrmont you should be able to get a map showing them to be in Harris Street, just to the north of Bridge Road. Maybe 600m from you. I'd phone or walk by first.

Re: Propane Refill in Sydney

If you want your own bottles filled, you might have a problem.
Try your closest marina or boat repair facility, such as Sydney City Marine under the Anzac Bridge.
I used to have mine filled by Michael or Kim at Castlecrag Marine, its a bit of a drive from where you are.
Most gas stations and hardware stores just sell exchange bottles these days, they dont fill containers any more.

Re: propane refill in Sydney?

I cannot speak for Sydney but most refill joints up my way are "exchange"...

You take the (mt) bottle in and exchange it for a (full) new one, no filling!

I do have an issue though when they want to exchange my SS ones for garden variity ones.....

Mate getting a full bottle is everywhere, ask at a servo.....simple....

olaf hart beat me to it.....

Re: Propane Refill in Sydney

My favourite refill place is Cass Bros. Plumbing over on Parramatta Rd., Taveners Hill (Petersham).

They're pretty quick, so a taxi would not be out of the question, or they advertise delivery and exceptional customer service so they could possibly pick up, fill and return.

Worth a phone call.

Re: Propane Refill in Sydney

In September 2010 I used the following on 2 occasions. They filled it on the spot, and it's a 5-10 minute car/taxi ride from Pyrmont.

Dynamic Building Supplies, 6-8 Booth St, ANNANDALE, NSW, 2038, (02) 9660 5166

Re: Propane Refill in Sydney

A bit off topic but I have seen one cruiser filling his own from an exchange bottle. He had a hose that went from one bottle to his. Does anyone know anything about doing this and where you could get the hose?

try this web site,Just finding fuel can be hard enough; MARINAS SYDNEY - Sydney Marina Guide - Fuel Search

you may need to ring them up but if they dont I bet they know an LPG source.

So how did you go? Did you get a refill? If so, where?

No refill as yet but narrowing the field -

It seems filling stations only exchange bottles nowadays so that option is out.

But I called Cass Brothers Plumbing and they seemed happy enough to fill the bottle, so making progress. I just need to rent a car to get out there as taking gas bottles on public transport seems to be frowned upon in this day and age.. did anyone say bomb? Anyway saving up jobs to do that require a car so that I can get out there and do a few other things to make a $75 car rental worth while.

Thanks for all the help, its much appreciated.
