New Zealand, new cruising guide for Stewart Island / Rakiura

Since it is about time that people currently in a warmer climate start to think about heading elsewhere.

There is a new cruising guide available for Stewart Island / Rakiura. Completely updated, chartlets and satellite illustrations of anchorages, plus all the usual stuff needed in a cruising guide. Covers Otago Harbour, the Catlins Coast, and the Island itself. 85 pages.

The guide is available free of charge as a pdf, hosted on the Otago Yacht Club website.

Link for download https://otagoyachtclub.org.nz/wp/ste...sailors-guide/

Just don't all head down at the same time please.........

Hey, that looks really good. Thanks for posting.

So far I've been mainly a NI sailor with Marlborough Sounds the furthest south with our boat yet. Currently berthed in Waikawa Marina but have good plans for this coming summer/autumn.

One time we did walk to the S end of Masons Bay ("the gutter"?, proposed settlement of "Kilbride"?) and back after sleeping in the sandhills surrounded by kiwi. Very interesting.

No problem, there's no point in having knowledge and information if you don't share it.

Late summer and autumn would be a fine time to head south for the island, spent the whole of March there this year, much more settled than the trips in the spring and early summer. Only one day of bad weather. Climate change is giving Stewart Island far less rain!

Magnificent effort Alastair. We have been cruising down to Stewart Island on and off since 1988. Great place for tramping, and exploring or just getting away from it all. That being said the weather can be slightly worse than bad and a safe anchorage is quite often a necessity. You pays your money and you take your chance! Your guide will be very useful and will expand the places we visit. Many thanks.
