I plan to crew for a friend on a crossing to the Marquesas. Im not having much luck on my initial search for a return flight. Suggestions on return travel options?

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
Have the Captain figure it out? That's what ALL my crew did.
It's not expensive to cross an ocean because of the boat, it's the cost of the crew. All in all, my last crossing was probably $20k and I didn't pay anyone.
It does look like it's cheaper to book a round trip and not use the second leg than a one way.

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
There are daily flights from the Marquesas to Tahiti and on some Marquesas islands multiple flights daily. The only airlines that flies this route is Air Tahiti. In both Nuka Hiva and Hiva Oa there are Air Tahiti offices where your crew can discuss options.

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
I'd be surprised if the OP could not use the Air Tahiti website to find a flight (departure AUQ to PPT), maybe looking for a more economical but rare east bound crossing by yacht to Americas?.

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
Belizesailor,
It probably depends on whether this is a business trip for you or a vacation. There are local steamers that visit the islands outlying Tahiti, but international flights only go to Papeete.
If time is unlimited, you might could catch a yacht to HI, then fly to make your way back to Belize. Pick your US port of departure according to the flight to Belize, and that would determine the carrier from HI to the mainland, unless you wanted to change flights in between. If time is limited, forget the yacht to HI.
[Jim and I sailed Bora Bora to HI to SF one year, because we had to go back to work. It is a lot of mileage to windward.]

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
If you enter Hiva Oa, our likely land fall, in most major online flight search engines, they do not connect the dots for you very well, so knowing I likely need to get to Tahiti first helps.
Im just crewing for a friend (yep, a real live actual friend who Ive know for years, unlike some of the common schemes between "friends" and "crew"). Im not getting paid to do this run and I plan to cover my own travel...just because I havent crossed the Pacific yet...what a concept! I wont be posting on YouTube or looking for Patron donations either...sailing just for the joy of it!
Time is not critical, but I expect my wife would like me to turn up at some point.
Thanks for all the input, will add that to my search efforts.

No, just crewing for a friend so wont dump my travel planning on him too. He will have enough planning to do.
Yeah, prepping for a major crossing is spendy. His boat is already well equipped, but I figure he has got enough financial pain just prepping, so I will at least cover my return travel.

Yes, almost a novel concept these days....go sailing just for the adventure...no FaceBook, no YouTube, no Twitter, no buzz.
Im sure there are many who would be very baffled by that behavior.

Re: Marquesas Return Travel
For a flight to Papeete from the Marquesas you could try this outfit that I only just discovered when booking a remote area flight this morning...
https://www.alternativeairlines.com/...-we-can-ticket
However I chose to go direct to the airline website.... about $US20 cheaper per head....
PS as stated above ^^^^ Air Tahiti is the airline you are looking for...
