LA/Long Beach, CA. Transient berths

I was teaching a friend to sail by doing a little coast hopping and pulled into Los Alamitos Bay on Thursday afternoon. In the Harbormasters Office their reply to my inquiry for overnight berthing was "We don't have ANYTHING ! It's Thursday night!" Now it was the night before start of Newport/Ensenada Race from 15 miles downcoast, is that what she meant ? Or is it every Thursday ? I called Shoreline Marina & they are remodeling & won't have any transient berths for "years". Only know of Moorings by the Queen Mary & Cabrillo as alternatives, is it normal to have difficulty with temp. berthing in LA/Long Beach Harbor?

yep.

public mooring at the dock just as you come into los alamitos, by Busters and Koury's.

anchor out behind isalnd white, just off the beach south of shoreline.

public mooring by Parkers Lighthouse, at the village.

restroom, not showers, by the public moorings. but the moorings all have time limits.

anchor out on the other end of habor by san pedro, cabrillo beach.

not sure about marinas in that area.

pssst, on the QT, sneak in.
because...

it is easier to ask forgiveness, than to ask permission.

that said, " i know nothing".

Thanks, We tied up to the dock & ate

at Buster's, but the wind was blowing straight up the channel and pushing the boat against the dock and bouncing around so much didn't want to stay there long. Used to sail out of Cabrillo YC as a kid when it was just a hoist on a pier, I want to look around at all the changes, LB is almost unrecognizable with all the changes on shore.
