Information on current situation in Thailand, Phuket

Hi,

We're planning to cruise the region this year and was wondering if anyone from there could provide more information as to what is happening in Thailand, Phuket?

As far as noonsite is concerned, they're open....but are we allowed to cruise the island there?

How difficult is it to get supplies for boat maintenance and repairs?

If you're crusing there right now, we'd like to hear your views please.

TIA.

Thailand is technically open. But, there is mandatory quarantine and heavy greasing of the palms.

Did you see the latest report from Anthony Swanston aboard SV Wild Fox?

Instead of asking for opinions, best guesses, and tangential information perhaps you should contact one of the 3 approved shipping agents for answers to your specific questions. The approved agents are...

Asia Pacific Superyachts – jojo@asia-pacific-superyachts.com
Porntip Logistics – porntip@porntip-logistics.com
Asia Yacht Agency – worawan@asiayachtagency.com

Then open your wallet.

Don't waste your time with the videos, the folks on SV Nohoa flew back to Thailand and quarantined in a hotel. The OP is asking about sailing a boat into Thailand.

Perhaps contacting the Thai goverment or local consulate to you , rather than hearsay or bribing your way in on a pandemic . One might think they know the laws at the moment

Re: Information on current situation in Thailand, Phuket

Thailand's current situation, as with most countries, is incredibly fluid and varies by province. National Govt announced a country wide lock down 5 January then backed off that a few days later. So I think that 28 provinces are deemed red zone currently (includes Bangkok) and so have severe restrictions including limiting travel between provinces. This is all publicly available information in local English newspapers on the internet.

So far as sailing there in 2021 is concerned it's a huge risk and frankly incredibly stupid. Yacht owners might find that they are trapped with severe restrictions. Accessing supplies, water, money, etc even sailing could become very difficult with no more than overnight notice. And having any sort of medical emergency on board would present all sorts of issues.

Don't know anything about the OP's current locale or situation, but unless already in the fire then sailing Thailand will only be jumping back in the pot.

Just as an aside Fiji is open, virus free and safe. But there's a rub. Sailing beyond the touristy yacht area (say within 20ks of Denerau/Musket Cove) is a lonely experience. Virtually nothing is open and on the odd occasion something is open you're always the only guest(s) and they'll have nothing for sale. It is a strange surreal world. And for those that know Denerau, the shopping area there has been a ghost town since March. Virtually no ferries or dive/fish charters, most shops shut, few people. All the tourist operators and most tourist attractions are shut, most public facilities like museums are closed or have very limited hours. What's the point of opening when there are no tourists?

So just making the comparison point that sailing Thailand, even if you can, then it would not be the experiences other cruisers have written and vlogged about. I don't think 2021 will be any different in the third world than 2020 was. Outbreaks, lockdowns, and fear, but with hope as vaccination is taken up. But it will take a couple of years to get out to remote destinations. And sadly too, there will continue to be groups of privileged people in the first world that deny the seriousness of the disease despite the statistics and science.

One response to the privileged you talk about . The science just changed. They are now reducing the number of cycles that the PCR test's do because it was causing too many false positives. I heard of this problem months ago but nothing happened until biden moved in. Think it was political?

Sailing or flying I bet they require 15 days quarantine and if you watch the video you'll see that you can't leave your room for anything. They even include meals. Plus 5 days later testing. Then testing at 14 days. It's not cheap. So I wouldn't call it a waste of time to get good intel.

Re: Information on current situation in Thailand, Phuket

Its hard to know what to say tho the western world US, Europe etc is full of people wanting to do what they want when they want despite this pandemic. Of course thats why its still not under control. You are looking for someone to give you the answer you want to hear so you can have your entitled way. Your probably just a Troll

Re: Information on current situation in Thailand, Phuket

Thanks for all the pointers, they are definitely points to consider.

I suppose, even if sailing into Thailand is possible, we might not be able to sail anywhere within the country.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I agree...get good intel. In this case...get the intel the OP is requesting.

There are additional requirements for sailing in.

The quarantine period does not start the day you arrive. This is identical to quarantine rules everywhere...e.g. Hawaii, Guam, Vietnam, etc.

Hotel room restrictions are also similar to other locations that require mandatory quarantines; including Hawaii. (In Hawaii, although not as rigidly enforced, if you do not stay in your room with meals delivered during your quarantine period, you can be fined and/or expelled form the islands...which has happened a few times.) So, nothing new there either.

Now, getting back to SAILING into Thailand...this is a good article on the process.

And once you clear in and complete the quarantine process at an ALSQ hotel and get your health certificate you can sail Thailand.Your AIS must be on 24/7 and you must download and use the Mor Chana contact tracing app.

I can't speak for the quarantine situation but once you are here in Phuket there are no restrictions on where you can go in Thai waters.
