Then no problem for a while (cant trust it been caught twice now) had to row for an hour and a half. all ideas will be appreciated.

What Brand?

Is it "shutting down" perhaps from "heat" - are you getting a good water flow from the tell tale, have you "felt"touched the engine by hand to check how hot?

Un likely to be fuel if it runs that long- perhaps electrical breaking down such as the coil, I have even had bad spark plugs that quit when the got hot- but ran well when cold

Cheers Steve

Re: Honda 2hp problem

Forgot the obvious- Have you checked your vent on the cap/tank is not blocked as eventually you suck a vacuum and no fuel, waiting long enough the tank gets air back into it to allow it to run again??????

Cheers Steve

It's a Honda and it's air cooled.

I agree to check to see that the vent is open. It's in the fuel tank cap if it's like mine. Taking the cap off would be a good test to see if it's a vent problem.

Replacing the spark plug would be something else to try. They don't last forever and they are not expensive. I carry one as a spare.

Re: Honda 2hp problem

Likely the air vent in the fuel cap. We have the same problem with our Honda and have just gotten used to closing the cap then backing it off a half turn. You can confirm this by loosening the cap the next time it stalls and then trying to start. If it starts right away, it's the vent.

You could just buy a new cap.

Sure, but where's the fun in that?

Thinking about it, it's not the cap that I loosen, but the vent in the top. I just leave it halfway between the "on" and "off" position and that keeps the vent open.

Honda 2hp is also air cooled so no water telltale.
