Haul out / Haul In - Malaysia/Sabah

Hi Sailomat,

I was just going to ask almost the same question. What I have heard is that Kudat is very expenive. But, I guess that depends on your budget.

My situation is that I am planning to buy what is essentially a trailer sailer in penninsular Malaysia, and ship her to KK. So I need to be hauled IN to the water somewhere, ideally very close to the port at KK, where the boat will arrive in a shipping container.

Gotta believe that there are repair facilities nearby with cranes and the staff that can accomodate both haul outs and repairs. Problem may be that they are not used to working on yachts.

It might be worth the trouble to contact the port at kk, and ask them for suggestions.

Good luck,

G2L

Just north of kk getting travellift

Kinabalu North Shipyard & Maritime Sdn Bhd

And some info on Penawasi (Kudat)
Nice 8 or even 12 strap travelift

Seems like the North shipyard might work well for me. The boat will be in a cradle. Need to unload the boat from the container and truck it to the travel lift where they can drop her in the water. Not sure how exactly this could be done, but my guess is that she will stay in the cradle til arriving at the travel lift, then maybe the cradle could be dismantled a bit at a time to let the lift get straps under her She is a MacGregor 26 with a relatively flat bottom, so seems like it would not be a major problem. Any thoughts on the process?
