Galapagos rules, restrictions, time limit, etc

What's the absolute latest info on the Galapagos? Seems if often changes based on the moods of authorities. We'll be there next month.

How long can we expect to stay coming from mainland Ecuador? Cornell put up the latest info on his site here. Seems we have to pull and "emergency" stop and then apply for an extension. Has anyone done this successfully? We don't need a full 20 days...maybe 10 would be good. Should I pack a bottle of scotch in my bag before coming ashore??
