Hi Greg, sorry, we never made it to NSW this year. Had a bit of boatbuilding work in Qld.

Are you guys sailing north this year?

Yeah. While they're in Hervey Bay the whales are often very friendly and inquisitive. They often come right up to the boat. We even had 3 playing round the bows like dolphins in slow motion, we were drifting along at about 1 1/2 kts.

Wow! That's amazing.

We got buzzed by one last year in Lower New York bay of all places... Not anywhere close to an encounter like this though.

Re: Friendly Locals in Hervey Bay.

We've had them come up close like that whilst anchored in that area. Good thing there were not whale cops around... those w hales would have been fined for coming too close to a yacht!

Some friends had a whale give birth right next to their boat in the same area a few years ago... that was a once in a lifetime experience. Marvelous place, that!
