Flotilla ideas for Galapagos to Marquesas

Looking for other boats interested in going as a group after July of 2014 from Trinidad/caribbean to Galapagos to Marquesas. We are a 40' cat with 2 kids ages 9 and 10 looking to travel with other families for a bit with no other agenda then to look out for each other.

We are new to cruising but not new to boat life and I am a retired captain with sailing experience. We just know that a lot can happen out in the blue and would just like a few friendly faces out there if things go sideways.

Not sure about finding a group from Trinidad, that's a long way with many different possibilities. But I think you will meet boats in Panama with kids and almost all will be going to Galapagos. From Galapagos almost everyone is headed to the Marquesas and most form groups before leaving, setting up their own, small nets.

I would think you would stand a better chance of hooking up with other kid boats if you traveled during the peak season for that route. If at all possible leave in March from Panama, this also gives you north winds at least for the first part. July is not a fun time to be around Panama and you may have southwest winds. Every year is different but we did not meet kid boats until the Marquesas, they were all coming out of Mexico that year.

July is kind of late, most of the people we are talking with are leaving March-April. That is our plan; mid/late March to the Galapagos then April to the Marquesas.

There are some kid boats doing this...but I don't know anyone that is waiting that late.
