Entering Indonesia

I want to cruise from Thursday Island, Australia to Meurake, Indonesia (a one day trip) for Indonesian entry purposes.(Cait and Visa)
However I am having difficulty getting reliable information as to whether I can do this.
I know Meurake has an immigration office, an airport, is a fairly large city and is the closest Indonesian port to Australia.
I have tried the Indonesian embassy, but no reply as yet.

Any suggestions

Indonesia is an interesting place.
Its a federation so each 'state' thinks it can make its own lawys. Each island thinks its independant from each 'state' so they think they can make their own laws. As there are 13,000 islands who all think Jakarta is a looong way away, there are many different laws

We found a town that was a port of entry when we were trying to clear out. Its surprised the officals that they were an official port of entry and so it took 2 days to clear us out. Mind you it took 4 days to clear us into indonesia and that was with the admin support of a 130 yacht rally

You need your visa prearranged in darwin.

I thought the closest port of entry was in Indonesian Timor at Kupang. By often accounts a place of interesting officials!

pirate Re: Entering Indonesia

I arranged for the visa in Darwin, and it was quite a lengthy process, depriving me of an income from all those backbackers (except of one, who was willing to wait all that time) looking for a ride to Indonesia.
Arriving there I realized, that a few bottles of booze and cigarettes bring you much further in this country than any paper work.
I know quite a few people who sailed through Indonesia, spending considerable time without clearance at all.
The real problem is coming back to Oz, they love their regulations like no other country in that area.
Continuing to Malaysia or Thailand is no problem at all instead - they don't even ask in most cases why the boat needed 3 month from Oz to get there.

Well, you can do things illegally or legally.
I do things legally.

As for passing out booze and cigarettes you just screw it up for all those following behind you.

So if its a medal you want you better grow a chest first.
