Electronic Charts for Society Islands

I'm flying to Bora Bora to join up with a friend and make the passage to Hawaii next week. I'll be aboard a well equipped sloop with a good stock of charts, Garman chart plotters, and so forth. Nevertheless, since I'm taking my iPad with me and I'd like to have a chart app like Imrays. I had one for the Caribbean and loved it.

I searched the Apple store and found nothing for the Pacific. It may not exist yet. Does anyone know of an app?

Dave

BTW, I downloaded the google earth app. It is spectacular but for the obvious shortcomings of depth and entrance guidance. After I return, I'll report on my experiences with respect to accuracy in places we visit along the way (and attempt no to visit).

Imray only has the charts for some areas. I have them for Australia, but there are none for the Pacific last time I looked.
I use the app: iNavx with Navionics charts. I find these to be very good for everywhere we stopped in the Pacific. And the price is right!

Hiya DC! You're sailing the "wrong way"! Let your friends meet you in Bora Bora! Why would anyone trade Bora Bora for Hawaii? I wouldn't!

Thanks everyone. I looked at Navionics and I didn't see an app for the South Pacific. I'll look again.

The iNavX is interesting. I'll read up on it. I suppose it imports the French charts for the Societies?

You got that right. I'm bringing parts to fix the SSB. That could take months to get right! I'm sure not in a hurry.

Nice boat you have. Are you a CFI? Give instruction? I have a BFR due soon and could sure see substituting that for a new MES rating.

For South Pacific you need 2 navionics Australasia and America and Caribbean to cross the pond.

Just remember you need to spend hours downloading maps before you leave Internet or apps are worthless.

Hiya DC! Sorry, I am not a CFII instructor! My buddies and me lease this bird whenever we go on vacation; ten of us. We're in the planning stages for a vacation South East Rottnest Island (Perth - AU), sometimes next year. The logistics are very time consuming, but worth every minute of it. It's a SCUBA diving trip to remote islands/atolls. I dove in many places, the world over, but never in the Indian Ocean.

Yeah, I get that. I'll just use google earth on the iPad this passage. There's plenty of equipment on board.

Some of the new products and apps that come out from time to time (like foreflight for the aviators out there) are such game changers, its good to stay tuned in.

Sounds like you have all the fun Teknav! Keep it up.
