Do you really need to 'stamp' your TIP 60 days after getting it?

Hey everyone,

We got very close to sailing into Mexican waters last year and I got the TIP in February when I thought we would be in Ensenada on March 15th. A long series of events (nothing bad) made us stay much longer in Californian waters and we ended up postponing the trip to 2019.

So now I have my TIP but I am not sure if it's going to be "smooth sailing" since it's a year old and the Banjercito website says: "You may request your permit 11 to 60 days prior to entering Mexico by vehicle."

The TIP itself says it's valid for 10 years and I doubt I could request another one since I have this one. I am not sure what to do.

Has anyone been in this situation? Am I in trouble? Any tips on how to figure this out before I am *in* Mexico?

Just wanted to loop back on this in case someone finds this thread in a few years

We did not have any issues when we got into Mexico. The TIP is indeed good for 10 years and they did not seem to care at all about a delay between getting the TIP and actually getting into Mexican waters.

As far as I can tell, you could get the TIP 2 years before getting into mexico. You are just wasting two years of it.
