Dengue outbreak - Marshall Islands?

Hi there
There have been reports recently that the Marshall Islands are prohibiting travel outside of Majuro due to a dengue outbreak.
Is anyone there right now or have information to confirm this please?
We are in Tuvalu , heading to the Marshalls via Kiribati and not being able to visit the outer islands would make us rethink our plans ...
Thanks

I would check in with Karen and Carey via Mieco Beach Yacht Club - The cruising site of the Marshall Islands. There will be able to give you the straight story.

Re: Dengue outbreak - Marshall Islands?

As of October 4/19, The Marshall Islands extended its declaration of a national health emergency for another month Friday as dengue fever cases continue to mount.
A ban on passenger travel to the outer islands remains in effect. The halt to travel has so far prevented spread of the illness to remote islands that have little capacity to manage serious health problems.

Re: Dengue outbreak - Marshall Islands?

There was a similar discussion in previous years but if cruiser are actually going to the Marshalls they should contact SV Seal via the website to get the ground truth. In our first season in the Marshalls we just needed a health screening from the Majuro hospital before we could go to the outer islands. We are not in the Marshalls now - rather chilly on Haida Gwaii instead - so the best thing to do is to talk to the people that are there.

I am on a ball about 50 yards from Seal in Majuro. Unfortunately there is a travel ban to outer atolls that has been extended through November. Whether it will be extended another month after that cannot be predicted. We here certainly hope that will be the end of it, but since himan lives are potentially at risk it is understandable that the ministry of health is being extremely cautious. Don, SV Ivanpah
