Better for Work: Newport or Coos Bay / Charleston in Oregon ?

My diesel tank is dripping and I'm in Newport, OR, but trying to get down to California.

Had a guy come out and take a look and he seemed a tad daunted by the whole idea of pulling the engine and replacing the tank. Maybe he was just daunted for my own sake...

Anyway, since we can't do anything until Tuesday we're considering going down the coast to Coos Bay, OR as it's gets us down the coast and the yard is more accessible \ part of the marina.

Anyone have recommendations or suggestions on yards to work with?
The only ones I am aware of with lifts are:
* Riverbend here in Newport
* Charleston Shipyard on Coos Bay

Thanks,
-p

Hi there,
Sorry I can't give you a recommendation but good luck with your problem. We were going to leave on Monday but found water in the engine oil so back to Ballard and time to prep for a new engine.

By the way did you meet these folks in Newport. Pacific Northwest Boating News: Two Northwest sailors rescued from sinking boat off California coast | Three Sheets Northwest

Sorry to hear about you engine!!

We met them briefly on the dock. Sv Bella Star got to know them better though. It's a shame about their boat, totally heart breaking!!

Just wanted to take a second and say Kyle at Tarheel Aluminum fabrication at the shipyard beyond the draw bridge in Charleston has been absolutely awesome! Monty at Englund Marine up tue street has gone way out his way to be helpful as well.

Charleston isn't as fun as Newport but it was definitely the place to get work done!

Best place for food/beer is Miller's Cove!

Um, there is a LOT more to the story. Read the comments below the article. Pacific Northwest Boating News: Two Northwest sailors rescued from sinking boat off California coast | Three Sheets Northwest

This guy makes Michael Calabrese look like Josh Slocum.

Patrick, long time no talk, I sold my 424 so I'm not on the list anymore, but I've moved back to Seattle and recently got a fixer-upper boat. We should meet sometime, I'd love to see your boat

Duh, yeah I'm more than a little bit dense

Sucks about the infamous 424 tank though.
