Avana Harbour in Rarotonga

I am looking for an alternative to the classic Mediterranean mooring at Avatiu Harbour.

Avana harbour is mentioned here (Rarotonga - a Cruising Guide on the World Cruising and Sailing Wiki). My boat has only 0.85m draft and could fall dry easily. The place looks much nicer than the industrial port. Therefore, I consider it as the primary anchorage for a potential stay in Rarotonga.

Does anybody have first-hand experience in anchoring there or seen Avana Harbour from the beach?

I would also be interested to any contacts to the sailing community in Rarotonga.
