Hi all,
This is a bit of an unusual request - I'm looking to deploy a few scientific sensors in the mid-Pacific between now and March, 2020. These floating buoys will be part of a
research project to measure ocean waves,
wind and currents in the open ocean, with the goal of using the data to improve ocean
weather forecasting to benefit
safety at sea,
weather routing, climate change monitoring, etc. If anyone is planning a transpacific crossing during that time period and would be willing to carry a few buoys along to deploy on your
route, it would be a huge help to us.
The sensors are small and lightweight (about the size of a basketball) and can be deployed by hand, by just throwing the buoy
overboard. We cover all costs for the
sensor including
shipping, so there is no additional costs involved. Here's a link to the
sensor webpage in case you want to read more about how it works:

We are targeting most of the open ocean regions especially in the
North Pacific and S/E Pacific (>200nm offshore) so most any
route would be useful. Shoot me a message if you're willing or have any questions, and thanks!
