Yes...another Aero-Rig question

Hi there everyone,

Once again, I bring you a strange question and this time a "love or hate one", so I´ll just get right to it...

In theory (disregarding cost) would an "Aero-rig" benefit a small boat, say between 20 to 30ft?
Up untill now, all aero-rigs that I have seen were exclusively on BIG boats. Why is that? Is it "just" the cost of having a tailored mast to fit your boat?

Say I would have a 25ft boat and the choice to put on whatever the hell I wanted... Why should I choose NOT to fit in such a rig?
Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but I would really like to see some light shed over it for me.

If I remember correctly, there was a catamaran 30' or less fitted with an Aerorig. You can probably find it with some searching.
As for reasons for, I don't know. As for reasons against, there must be some or else lots of boats would have them.

Yes, but that´s exactly my point... no one has ever told "WHY"!
All of you certainly heard of Amyr Klink, and since he changed his rig to "Aero", he never changed back, no matter what (and boy...he faces some really nasty conditions) and even on the new -and bigger- boat, he chose it over the "traditional" ones. And he´s not alone on this!

So, bottom line, are there real REASONS why one should NOT go for it? Because for a "ignorant" guy such as myself on this matter, it all smells like love/hate arguments, and not really the pros/cons of it...

There was a 32 in Tx that had an aero rig fitted when new in 98 i think. It never sailed correctly had all kinds of issues and. Ended in litigation for several years the boat sitting the entire time n4 the owner finally. Got paid. I have heard good about them on other boats. Not sure the issues with this one.

It's called Dollars I believe! It costs BIG Boat Bucks to make the change, and theres no gar-en-tee it will work all that well !! A friend of ours wanted to have it on there 40 ftr, and the folks who make them gave him a price that would have bought him a brand new 40ft boat !! so I sorta think it's a dollar thing

Hirondelle 24 small enough? Some article test sailed the standard against the aerorig. Depended on point of sail which was faster, aerorig was something like 10% smaller. Google hit probably makes the article a Practical Sailor 94

Its a contradiction Really rich people get Aero Rigs because us peasants kick their butts Racing the same boats . Poor people like small boats because they can almost afford them. Sooooo If you are sailing a small boat you are OK you are one of us !! If you really want an Aero Rig maybe you are a genius and motivated and want to start a company called "THAMES" to sweep "AMAZON" back into the Jungle. Either way I am going to keep an eye on you. Me I just want a quiet a bit ugly power boat so i do not have to C C Compete Sort of like that famous Pic of Einstein sailing his Quote "Piece of crap" boat in Zero air.
