World Cruising & Sailing Wiki Use Questions

On every screen within CF there's a link to the Wiki. It could be a fantastic source of useful information, but much is past dated, and significant areas are empty.

Do members use the facility?
Is there any point to the few of us that add content to it, continuing to do so?

Perhaps someone much smarter than myself might be able to setup a poll.

Re: World Cruising & Sailing Wiki Use Questions

Only 93 views of above post, yet this is an important question about a resource right here on CF. Many many people have spent thousands of hours adding to the Wiki.

So am wondering how does a post get some friction in the viewing statistics?

Re: World Cruising & Sailing Wiki Use Questions

Grant,
If I am looking for information on something in particular, I'll use a general search engine. If I want to see CF discussions on a topic, I'll do the same, but add "site:cruisersforum.com" to the search. If a Wiki page comes up in the search, I might end up there, but would not go looking there first.

Can see that there is a tab for Wiki up in the header. Never used it, and have no idea what it is for, but will give it a try.

I do my best to keep the Chile section up to date......https://www.cruiserswiki.org/wiki/Chile

Last updates were October 2019...... I haven't seen the sea since December 2019... let alone Chile....

There is also this..

Isn’t noonsite a more universal site that removes the need for each particular forum to repeat the same information?

One is a commercial site ...the other isn't ( to the best of my knowledge)...

I contribute to both but have more control at the latter.

Both need input from cruisers to make them work.... check the info on Noonsite and CW about the Chatham Islands......

Both could do with input from recent cruising visitors to make them useful....

My last visit was 18 years ago.... long before the new jetty was built at Waitangi... so my observations would have little merit

Noonsite info a bit dated but reasonably accurate. I posted a user comment as I’m not an editor there.

CF Wiki totally missing any information about the Chatham Islands (of New Zealand). There is a link on the NZ page to Chatham Island, which links to a page about the Chatham Island that is located near Victoria, BC, Canada! I’ve requested an account to the wiki and once granted I shall clean up that page and add Chatham Islands information (as well as some for Gulf Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf).
