@hellosailor, this has been discussed above, but there are some changes after ten years. More boat owners today accept to lease their boat through dedicated websites, which provide the needed insurances, verify the renter's abilities and take moderate fees. Boat swap is not much different, except that you lease to another confirmed boat owner, from which you can expect similar skills and care as yours - no complete guarantee, but better than a "perfect stranger".

@Pelagic, in CF it would be possible to place a listing in the Boat Classifieds sections, with a "free" prefix and an explicit title. Better than nothing, waiting for improvements in boat swap websites. You could be the first !

Re: Why does the forum not have an exchange programme

Personally, I am not interested in anyone bare boating my cruising home. Instead finding another nice cruising couple to invite us to share their home after we did the same for them.

It doesn't need a 3rd party, just a forum meeting place to post your interest and then details are handled privately.

It might be nice to share a summary of how the exchange went, but I know my goal would be to give the other couple the best, most comfortable, fun trip they could have imagined ....(and hope they reciprocate )

Hope the CF Admin are listening and would consider adding a place to post searches

I would simply call it..
"Destination Exchange"

Re: Why does the forum not have an exchange programme

Thanks Pete,
I think it would be a nice noncommercial service of CF to put like minded cruisers from various cruising destinations and Seasons together for the opportunity to explore.

(I really don't want to put a heater on my boat! )
