Which Yacht Club in SE Queensland ?

Hi Folks,

Hoping some fellow Aussies might be able to help out with a bit of advice!

My wife and I are buying our first yacht, mainly for cruising & perhaps the odd club race. We live on the Gold Coast in Australia. We're trying to decide which club to join - Southport Y.C. or Royal QLD Yacht Squadron?

Southport is closer and a bit cheaper for berthing & membership fees. However, RQYS seems to have a lot more going on activity wise, if you go by their website. Plus its directly onto Moreton Bay.....

Anyone out there who can share their opinions of these two fine establishments so we can make an educated decision?

For clarification....I'm interested in frequency and quality of races & group cruises, as well as cost, quality of and access to maintenance facilities, plus other educational stuff that goes on (eg talks from experts or presentations from vendors on particular subjects etc).
