Where do you buy Stugeron?

I was fortunate enough to have a friend give me some stugeron, and it was magical: far better for me than the patch.

Sadly, I live in Canada and can’t buy it here.

Where do you usually get it? I asked in France, Portugal and Spain with no luck.

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

There's plenty of sturgeon in the Caspian Sea.

Unfortunately, there's also plenty of sturgeon poaching.

One time, for reasons, I was on a quest to find out who was poaching the sturgeon. I met Kamil, the chief of the fish police in a small port in Dagestan, an autonomous region of Russia on the west coast of the Caspian.

He took me out in a primitive skiff into choppy, six-foot waves, toward Chechen Island... on the way, we happened upon a motorboat that was adrift. The crew hailed the fish police chief. They had run out of gas. They also had two big sturgeon in their boat. That was a no-no, because they were not licensed to catch sturgeon.

Kamil demanded that they hand over the fish, and tossed them a can of gas.

Back at the dock, he ordered his men to put one of the fish in my driver's car. They decided to "hide" it under the back seat, which folded up to make a sturgeon-sized compartment.

I was shocked. "The last thing I want is for someone to catch me with a poached sturgeon." But Kamil was not having it. So we drove off with the sturgeon under the seat.

Over a hill, about 500 meters from the port, a policeman waved us over and said he wanted to search our car.

Shalap, the driver, who, I forget to mention, carried a revolver in a side holster, opened the car. I was sure I was going to fish jail.

The cop never opened the seat and let us go. Once we were out of sight, I ordered Shalap to stop the car and dump the sturgeon over the side of the road, into a swampy ditch.

Shalap never forgave me. Like you, Nagambie, he was really hoping for some sturgeon.

Apparently, you can legally buy it in Astrakhan, on the Volga delta. If you can get to Iran, it is sold there. I don't know if you can get to Turkmenistan, but I've seen sturgeon in the markets of Turkmenbashi. I have heard you can get it in Aktau, Kazakhstan, but I have never been there.

Good luck!

(Somewhere I have a picture of one of the smugglers tossing a beheaded sturgeon from his skiff to Kamil's. I can find it if anyone wants to see it.)

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

That was one heck of a story! A truely great read.
I don't think I could handle the stress of poaching, combined with bad conditions in a small boat. I would definately need some sea sickness medication of some sort.
I hear there's a very effective medication, coincidentally, called sturgeon.
Unfortunately I'm not sure which countries sell it. But good luck!

Available over the counter in Bermuda. I don’t need it but I’ve heard it’s very effective and many cruisers/racers stock up while there.

You can get it over the counter in Mexico (or at least could when we were there 15 years ago)

It's available OTC here in Port Moresby. I always carry a plentiful supply for all crew when going offshore

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

Order it from amazon.co.uk it’s available as a stronger “ forte “ version as well. Very good for sea sickness , possibly the best over the counter. , take it for 24 hours before you sail.

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

The reason you can't buy it in some countries is that it has some nasty side affects including the risk of bringing on acute and chronic Parkinsons.
They used to - probably still do - sell the 75mg tabs in Ushuaia to punters heading to the Peninsula.
I don't think occasional use of the 15mg ones carries much risk.

There’s very little risk irrespective of volumes when taken for occasional sea sickness. Motion sickness medications shouldn’t be needed after a few days of acclimatisation, if you have persistent issues I’d question what you are doing sailing in a small boat

I ordered stugeron from canadaDrugsOnline.com 2 years ago. It took a few months to arrive, so order well before you need it.

THIS!!!!

It seems to be fairly widely available in the Eastern Caribbean. My Wife got some 15mg tablets and it worked well. Then she got some more, this time they sold her FORTE 75mg tablets. She is not big on reading directions so she just took them. After a while she started having serious balance problems, tremors, etc. It took me a while to sus out what was going on.

She had Stugeron Induced Parkinson’s (yes it is a thing) and it took nearly a year to get over it. Not everyone does. IIRC older women are especially susceptible to it.

She went back to 15mg doses and uses it sparingly. But she will not be without it.

Try google/shopping

Cinnarizine 15 mg

Good luck.

Re: Where do you buy Stugeron?

Here is a link to a scientific review of the 15mg version if anyone is interested. Seems relatively safe at the low dose.
