Don't get me wrong... I am not discouraging courage. It seems that you are plenty courageous, and I have been in many situations that I didn't believe I had recovered from. I'm just promoting a little bit of caution.

Wanna race?

Aarrrgh!
What!?

You don't want to risk everything to win the Cup?

Sometimes the Cup is worth $5.00 or so

But when you are racing, it's hard to hold back.

What's a pitchpole here and there...........

It is fun though to push the envelope and round the mark ahead of boats that are rated much faster than you.........

Re: When would you not use a spinnaker

Racing we've pushed kites up to 45 true, 30 over the deck. Cruising with just the two of us we douse at 20 if deep less if shy reaching. Kites on the current boat are about 4,000 sq ft so we treat them with some respect.
