Wheel wrap options?

The leather wrap on my 40” Edson Destroyer wheel is looking rough, after 20 years. Has anyone used bicycle handlebar tape for this? Seems like it would work well & be easier & faster to install than sewing a new leather cover on- anyone have some insight?

Re: Wheel wrap options?

I have not used the stuff to wrap a wheel, but I have used this stuff on my bike handle, and I really like it. I would probably have a binnacle cover just for UV protection though. I am not sure if you get 20 years out of it though.

If you do decide to not use this stuff, elk hide sewn on would last a long time.

How will you handle the joints with bike tape? It does not come in long lengths.

I've seen some done with cord, looked nice, don't know about durability.

Doin that makes the process of sewing on the leather far less daunting

I wrapped my wheel with paracord about 8 years ago. It shows no sign of wear.
