It allows for one person to haul the sail change up without needing a second person feeding the boltrope into the rollerfurler. For solo sailing.

Pretty much. I got old while I was waiting to retire. Also got divorced, disenchanted and went MGTOW. Never wanted to do it alone.

You can raise a jib without one but this makes it far easier for most any furler

It’s a combination of a swivel shackle attached to a prefeeder with wire.
