What island is your favorite...
In the United States?
According to Tripadvisor.com a website that deals with vacation travel lists the top ten islands in the U.S.
10. Key West, Fl.
9. Amelia Island, Fl.
8. Hawaii, Hi. (the big island)
7. Chincoteague Island, Va.
6. Sanibel Island, Fl.
5. Maui, Hi.
4. Anna Maria Island, Fl.
3. Marco Island, Fl.
2. Kauai, Hi.
1. San Juan Island, Wa.
Over one million people participated in the survey. Sure, I'd be willing to bet 99.9% have never been on a sailboat in their lives, but....
Would you agree or disagree with any of these?

Looking out the back yard at #9. It's currently 54 degees at 3:30 p.m. with a freeze warning tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. til 9:00 a.m.
Not impressed.

Re: What island is your favorite...
the best islands i have visited have no,or very few people on them,
none of those qualify
,if big island hawaii is anything to go by,which i have visited and you like mom and pop rip off kitch tourist dives, there are soooooooo many better places in the world!
personally american samoa has more to offer the real traveler than any on that list

Re: What island is your favorite...
The list is obviously for tourist destinations, and I agree that I have others I like better that are mostly off the beaten track. But, since we have a list to choose from, I'll vote for #6 Sanibel Island.

Re: What island is your favorite...
If it is from the list I put in a vote for #6 also, Sanibel Island. First trip there was at age 4 and still 45+ years later not much has changed ( other than big obnoxious concrete bridge in place of rickety old wooden bridge ) and a few more houses and tourists.
Oh, and less variety of shells on beach. ( Which does not seem to bode well for marine life health, or it's just that too many tourist with deep pockets on beach )
If not from the list, I vote on Catalina Island on West Coast ( Two Harbors is idlyllic in off season )
And on East Coast any of a number of Maine Islands in summer.

Alex, give the dish on American Samoa. As someone who has sailed as much as yourself, I would like to hear from your perspective.

Re: What island is your favorite...
Had more fun on Galveston Island than anywhere. Probably my favorite.
Kauai was nice, Honeymoon.
Dominican Republic, good cheap beer and friendly people.
On Guam and Great Inagua, the people were friendly as well.

Looks like a list of "Rich People" islands. I have been to #10, #9, #6, #5, #3, and #2. Full up with extremely wealthy people! My favorite would be, Petit Bois Island, Loggerhead Key and Dry Tortuga. Mostly because there are no people there rich or poor.

I don't know if you are aware that you made a mistake.
You started with 10 and went backwards with your numbers.
Key West is #1.

I like places that Atoll has been to.
Excluding the UK (American humor).
He inspires me.
Wheres the link to his list?

Re: What island is your favorite...
Well, among the San Juans, I'd put Orcas ahead of San Juan. I can't disagree with Kauai, especially the north shore.
I've never been to Mackinac, but that seems like a pretty special island that maybe should have made the list.
I used to live on Maui and da Big Island, so I know those very well.

I used to live overlooking False Bay outside of Friday Harbor snort. I really liked all the San Juans.
