What is this hole?

Selden 511-519 Clew Slider/Slug, it has a hole and a "mouth" in the end, what are they for?

Re: What is this hole?

I am guessing here. The Selden sailmakers guide lists the shackle size for the oval opening.

Here is my guess. The small hole is for the outhaul. The mouth is for the throat of a tight splice. Kind of like a thimble. That keeps the outhaul in place when it’s slacked off.

Re: What is this hole?

Chris Mac, You're funny
Gord May, Thanks, I know its my outhaul slider, but what is the hole for?
Defelsent, I'm not sure I understand you.

Both the hole and the "fishmouth" are faired for smooth passage of a line or bungie. I can only think that it might be a rattle stopper. I have the Selden manual, but there is no more info.

I think I will write to Selden themselves.

Re: What is this hole?

Given the fairing for both the hole and the end of the slug I think dfelsent is correct - it’s for a dyneema eye splice of an outhaul. What’s a little weird is that it runs the outhaul line in the slot, but as long as your end of boom sheave is not set too high that’s a very tidy solution.
