What is a good steel yacht?

I am looking at getting back to cruising and would like to get a good steel hull up to 33 feet. I also like aft cabins. So lets hear what should I be looking at.
Regards Quilpiegold.

What is your budget?

You may want to look into a folkes 39..comfortable and good size.

Roberts and Ganley should both be common steel vessels in your area. You should do an online search of the two names and see what pops up. Or you could look at the Ozy version of Trademe and traderboat. And finaly some brokers. Depends on how far afield you want to look. Oz is a big place as you well know. In fact, NZ is closer to Oz than some Oz places are from each other.

Hi ..in your post you said a good steel "Hull" Are you after a project boat or is it the design type that you are looking at. The level of finish and what gear is on board make a huge difference to the price. I have looked at dozens of steel boat ranging from 30K for something that you need to be careful not to tread to heavily, to 350K masterpiece that had a switchboard so large that it looked like the controls of a nuclear power station. How fast do you want to go ? Round bilge or hard chine? How many chines ? There was/is a beautifully built hard chine, bilge keeler, for sale in Hastings (Vic) for about 80K. Aprox 34 foot ready to go. I have seen single chined boats ,loaded with gear really cheap, because people think that they are really slow and dont like the look of them out of water. No different than a dory with a keel really. ##33 feet is at the very small end for a boat with an aft cabin. You may have to throw a few more parameters to get closer to what you want.

Hi,

My friend has a Van De Stadt 34 for sale, in very good condition.
No aft cabin but not to far from you if you are interested. I should point out that I have a past association with this yacht brokerage but there is nothing in this suggestion for me and the yacht owner is a personal friend.
Details at Sunshine Coast Yacht Brokers , his is the red one plus there was another one listed on there aswell.

Cheers

Ian
