What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
I've been working on an app to keep me organized and make it easy to do the periodic things you have to do to take care of things around the house. Add salt to the softener every month, replace the air filters, check the septic every two months, replace the fire alarm batteries every year.
I'm looking for examples of the same sort of things on a boat. Check the bilges every other day, wipe down the ceilings every 5 days, replace the water filter every month, etc.
What is your list? What are the things you are checking periodically? Ideally if it's useful I'll throw the app out there, right now I just built it for myself. I'm sure there are apps out there that can do something like this, I'm building this just for fun.

Yeah I should have elaborated. I have teenagers that can't seem to remember anything. I'm hoping this will help them. I'll definitely be drinking beer while overseeing the chores

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
I use an app I wrote as well. Tracks all sorts of stuff. For reminders I just put the item on my tablet/phone calendar. It's really particular to your boat. We only have two of us so cleaning/vacuuming is done less often than you may need to. I use the motor manuals (diesel and outboard) for that maintenance. I have oiled teak that gets cleaned and oiled every couple/three weeks. We're in FL so it gets done quite often.

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
For the skeptics on this thread, I keep a plastic covered checklist on the nav console and the full detailed list in a spreadsheet (as someone suggested...)
My lists include the following groups...
Registrations, insurance, taxes, licenses et al
Safety equipment - flares, life raft
Winterizing - long list which includes engine service times
Summerizing
Navigation equipment updates
and finally going sailing (yes - actually using the boat!)
The plastic checklist covers:
Preparing to cast off, underway, anchoring, preparing to dock and leaving the boat.
I could see an App being useful if it provided the list of items that most boat owners need to track - with the actual list being selected by boat type or use maybe.
Then if the dates entered automatically send the selected type of alarm before the due date.
There are many organizers but they provide little value it it takes a huge amount of time to setup. Then a spreadsheet or pencil and paper win out.
I would be pleased to share any and all of these if helpful...

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
I keep a log book with maintenance items in it along with part numbers and sources. Old school paper and pen. Log book goes with the boat and stays in the nav station.
Maybe add to your list move all seacocks once a month to keep them from seizing. Also equalize batteries if applicable once a month or so. I also flush out the interior with a hose and clean the bilge twice a year (dog on board). But most tasks are use dependent.

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
1) Unlock boat
2) Start engine
3) Drop mooring
4) Hoist mainsail
5) Unfurl genoa
6) Sail to chosen anchorage
7) Drop mainsail
8) Start engine
9) Furl genoa
10) Anchor boat
11) Reverse items above when tired of chosen anchorage
Occasionally I ignore this list and clean the boat and fix stuff.

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
The previous owner developed an amazing spreadsheet of maintenance checks. Includes a variety of separate sheets for part/serial numbers, electrical cabling codes, supplier contact details etc.
I think an App would be great, although would need to be completely soft as every boat is quite different.

Re: What are the regular tasks you do on your boat?
I have a portable dehumidifier , it drains into forward compartment that drains from anchor hold, I pump out about 5 gal each interval. I also check bilge system with this water. I also start and run my older diesel, motoring forward and reverse and review all lines and bumpers. I wish I spent more time with log at these intervals. great thread need more idea's. fair winds
