Whale gulper 2.2 gallon shower sump installation help

Hello everyone. I am replacing my old shower pump with the whale gulper kit that is a 2.2 gallon tank with the 220 pump. Instructions are vague and I need more help than what the insert offers.

1. Can the unit be placed higher that what will be drained out? I have room aft under the lazarette where thr fridge compressor is or squeeze it in under the sink where the old pump is. Not much room for the tank, though.

2. What is the procedure of drilling or cutting the tank inserts to accommodate hoses? They are currently sealed. Do I cut off an end then fit a hose on it? Or is there something else that is better?

Dumb questions, I know, but my knowledge is limited and I am learning as I go. Thanks for any help.
