Weather Application and Forecast

Good afternoon.

I am sailing in Charlotte Harbor area and I am wondering what is the best and most reliable forecast model?

Most of the tool give different models options and results can be very different

Re: Weather Application and Forecast

I'm on the West Coast where weather people can't see the weather coming across 3000 miles of weather reporting. When a commercial fisherman, I learned to read weather maps and do my own forecasting. And I do a better job in winds, waves and swells. But even with the tools of today, your not going to get wind accuracy within a few mph. It's not an exact science.

Re: Weather Application and Forecast

Hi. Yes I am maybe looking for a degree of precision that does not exists.

Between the different models that offers the different tools (windy, Windfinder) the difference seems to be more at the gust level. For instance, for this week-end, max gust can go between 12 and 20 depending of the option chosen. Not a big deal I would guess for bigger boats but obviously more impacting for smaller boats.

I usually look for the extreme one to avoid bad surprise.
