Re: weather

My clients use it. They had a technical problem and we had to fall back on sms and voice data though - midway thru the Atlantic. But they did sort it out once on the other side. It was an operator's problem (no external antenna purchased at the start).

My explanation of the above glitch is you want the advantage of what they call the full marine set - an external antenna, foremost, likely.

I believe a third party wx data provider claims full and simple interoperability too.

So, the short answer is it works. The longer one is you want the best hardware and to test it inshore well ahead of any longer expeditions - you can solve any teething problems way faster and better - at the dock.

PS DeLorme (now Garmin) offers the same functionality (on the same network).

Cheers,
b.

Re: weather

Hi,

This is Topher from Global Marine Networks. I would highly recommend using XGate, which is a subscription based email client that compresses all your emails 50 -90 percent smaller than the original size, saving both time and money.

Predict Wind is a great way to receive weather, which you will get a free account with XGate. It works on iOS/Android/Mac/Windows. You can see more about PredictWind on our site and theirs. This works over the Iridium Go without issue.
(https://www.predictwind.com) (http://www.globalmarinenet.com/product/predictwind/)

If you want to receive weather products on an iPad and/or iPhone, you can with XGate and the following apps: PredictWind, WeatherTracks, Weather4D Pro or iNavX. These apps can be viewed and purchased in the iTunes store. If you want to receive weather products on an Android Smartphone, you can use weather app from the Google Play Store, such as SailGrib and coming soon PredictWind.

I suggest you take advantage of the 3-day free trials of XGate (XGate Satellite Phone Email| Iridium 9555, Inmarsat, Globalstar via XGate | GMN).

Please feel free to contact support@gmn-usa.com with any further questions.

Re: weather

Our Garmin inReach provides weather forecasts; takes about 2 minutes to come up. This is over the Iridium network.
