Re: Vloggers hit an uncharted rock/reef in the Kimberleys

Got it...I'm not as up to date as you are on what has happened since he left.

He definitely needs to mend fences with the locals and find a way to salvage, if practical.

My memory of Aboriginal villages were not exactly pictures of environmental sensitivity because of their remote locations. [emoji6]

And yet in the same waters, there are a shipload of wrecks that are protected...

As usual, it is case of do as we say, not what we do; plus a large dose of politics and perhaps money...

so, to salvage one would need to remove batteries, electronics, engines oil, petrol, diesel and similar and leave mast rigging and fiberglass to sea driving it out in deeper water and sink it.

that should not be too hard ?

Re: Vloggers hit an uncharted rock/reef in the Kimberleys

Did anyone else find it interesting that there were low battery alarms blaring, not enough power to run lights etc but plenty of power to run cameras and apparently to upload to social media?
What am I missing here?

Probably the camera(s) had their own batteries and the uploads were done weeks after they were safely returned to land. Neither required boat batteries.

Am I missing something, didn't he had liability insurance??

Removing fuel and oil from a half-sunk boat is tricky, just as removing half a ton of lead batteries...

"Am I missing something, didn't he had liability insurance??"
Liability insurance will help to protect him if the rock he damaged goes to court and sues him. Lucky for him, rocks are usually not litigious.

It will not cover wreck removal, environmental cleanup, or other issues. Those are separate policy additions ("endorsements") not covered under liability alone.

If that area is any type of "sanctuary" or "reserve"...Yes, he could find whoever administrates it coming after him to removal and cleanup. Or they might decide that since he has no assets, it doesn't pay for them to bother, and to let the wreck lie.

Possibly quite a lot , just wondering how long it would / will be before they are calling him the “Kimberly dingbats “ .

Re: Vloggers hit an uncharted rock/reef in the Kimberleys

Video cameras have their own built-in batteries, which often can run them for hours, and vloggers often have three or more sets of those batteries, usually fully charged on the shelf.

A number of video cameras will also run and recharge from a 5V "USB power bank" which of course is independent of the ship's 12V power, and even then, could probably be recharged a number of times from a dying 12V battery, until it ran down to 5V.

A battery alarm, possibly at 11-11.7 volts on the ship's power, wouldn't impact a video camera that way.

He didn't edit and upload the video while he was knee-deep in the water! Also his later comments in front of a white wall were likely not taken while he was on board...

And I'm not aware how you could pump out a boat using a video camera battery.

500-odd miles from Broome... Maybe you can try and get a quote?

You only get paid on views that meet YT’s mysterious criteria for counting. Likes and subscribes mean nothing.

I guess a little bit is unavoidable given that many cruisers spend a lot of time in their swimwear, and it can be done tastefully.

Lol. You think the audience is cruisers or sailors! It’s teenage boys with itchy clickers. This checks all the boxes for that demographic.

The $ is not in youtube for most people, it's in Patreon.
