Visiting Salem MA, need anchorage advice

Were passing through Salem MA end route from the Caribbean to Europe and plan to stay here for a couple of weeks.

Can anyone recommendatory a good spot to anchor out within dinghy distance of town?

Were on a ball at Hawthorn Marina at $63.75 a night - the cruising budget will not support that for long.

Having had my boat there for 8 years there really isn't a place except on the outside edge of the mooring field and landing there at the park as there isn't a place to land dinghy in town.

Tha Salem harbormaster web site says
Transient vessels are welcome to drop anchor on the Marblehead side of the inner harbor just short of the mooring field in approx position 42.31.00N,

I’d ask Hawthorne cove if you can use their dinghy dock. There is winter island as well but it’s a hike to town. Palmer cove yacht club is friendly and may let you use their dock as well

Try calling the harbormaster.

Gloucester has Anchorage’s as well as public dinghy docks. Manchester too although they have tie up time limits. Salem Gloucester and Manchester are all walking distance to stores an Commuter rail.

Best of luck. I’ll see you as I commute on the Nathaniel Bowditch next week.
