Trysails

Do you have one? Why or why not? Do you have a separate track for it on the mast? Have you ever used it "in anger?"

Re: Trysails

I have had them on 2 cruising boats and didnt like them at all, other than they make a great roll stopper at anchor if you can hoist them high enough. I only used the trysail in anger on my 37 foot steel sloop and it did not set well and would not get the boat to tack in the heavy wind. If you have to claw of off a lee shore a third reef or very deep second reef will set much better and hopefully get you upwind. Other people love them but I was un-impressed and would never spend the money on one. Just my opinion. ____Grant.
