Would it be possible....or wise....for me to temporarily use a trolling motor on my 20' montego? This is just until I get myself a 4hp outboard or something similar...any advice or input on this? I'll be using it on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville. Mostly to get on and off the trailer and maybe for emergency situations. Would I be able to pull this off? Thanks for the help.
depends.. we used a trolling motor to get our 22 foot to the yacht club for the saturday race and back to the ramp on sunday.. traveled about 3 miles each way..
If you have current and its pushing hard, maybe not.. if the motor is up around 40 pounds of thrust and you watch what your doing, should work..
Use it. You'll be just fine. Our club uses an electric for our WWP 19 and our IF 26. To get on and off a mooring they are great. If you have lots of current on the St. Johns then you'll probably want to make certain your battery is always topped off before getting underway.
