trip recording app to replace Google Earth

Hi

what is available to record a trip (in retrospect) ?
In the past have used Google Earth Pro and worked nicely, unfortunately the new version for Chromebook is very awkward and difficult to work with, editing, saving are a pain, oddly the Google Earth Pro for windows is much intuitive but do not have a Win computer now.

I remember seen some apps for navigation that had the option to retrace and record the journey.

I know about Garmin Explorer InReach could have a copy of the trip, prefer Google Earth for the added features, any ideas?
thanks

To clarify, are you looking for a way to create a track after you've already completed the trip and had forgotten to record a track in your preferred marine navigation app (OpenCPN, Navionics, SEAiq, etc)?

after the trip

Navionics for instance could do it but is very bare compared with the details offered in Google Earth

In that case I'm assuming that you'd either be dropping points based on what you have in your log, or from memory. Your basic GPX file is little more than a collection of coordinates and timestamps, so you can create it in whichever app is easiest, then transfer to others that have the desired features/details. Not sure what particular features/details you're looking for though.

One map tool that is more useful on land, but still has a marine charts layer and would allow quickly creating and exporting routes is CalTopo.

Correct!

But, you only get a few private maps. That isn't a problem if you're just taking screenshots or downloading the GPX files, but I think if you wanted to store a large collection of maps or use some of the other features (e.g making PDFs larger than standard letter/A4) that would require an upgrade.

I have Navionics on my phone, works great for tracking. You can use it as a planner, and onfo is exportable.

well, got a rough draft but looks like will meet my needs.

Helps to go over with prospective crew applicants and discuss details.

Thank you for your suggestion and help.

We use Polar Steps. Free app with ability to upload photos and descriptions. Great for friends and family back home.
