Trinidad and Tobago Monetary Limits for Customs

Have just read that a Skipper has been Jailed in Trinidad to two years of Hard Labour and had the funds confiscated while attempting to bring in US$ in excess of Custom limits.
He tried to bring in $19,000.00 in cash, the Limit is $5000.00.
I believe that the sentence is a little "over the Top", but, when in Rome......
Trinidad and Tobago are very strict with regard to Customs requirements, certainly not worth trying to hide something from them.....two years of hard labour for excessive cash.....wonder what the sentence would have been for something worse....firearms, ammunition...

Nineteen grand in cash seems excessive. It would be interesting to read the details of the case to determine why a two year sentence was justified.

I think T&T, like Barbados, will also throw you in jail for wearing any type of camo clothing. In some parts of the middle east, a copy of Playboy or a pack on condoms will get you the same rude surprise.

Isn't that why they call traveling an "adventure" ?
