Trimming for Neutral Helm...

wondering how my old roller boom will affect trimming?
also I have severald jib sails from storm jib, 100% jib, 150% jib, genoa and spinnaker but no furler!!

can this KISS gear allow me to balance my sail in any wind condition?
the main has only 2 reefs...not sure?
cheers

Re: Trimming for neutral helm...

In general, I think the design performance requirements, and the materials and hardware characteristics to obtain this performance are often overlooked when upgrading an older boat.
I would be interested to hear opinions relating to such things, as you ask, on should you reduce the mainsail area by the same percentage as the foresail is reduced when changing from a deck-sweeper jib to a higher cut furling jib.
Do sail makers know to alter the built-in draft of a foresail if your mainsheet traveller is an older type track without centering tackles? I kept my R/F boom for authenticity.
How does one trim your very-low stretch synthetic sails to not overstress the hull and rig, considering that older sail cloth weaves yielded much more to wind loads.
I have a high ballast ratio, lean hull with long overhangs. If I press her to hard to windward, she will gripe. So I foot off, increase speed and generally get there when the rocket ships are dropping anchor.
At least, thats the way I see it.
