Transat Jacques Vabray

Is anyone else following the Transat Jacques Vabray? I'm watching Hugo Boss climbing her way up in the standings. According to Alex Thomson they can do 30 knots in 18 knots of wind.

Oops, I wonder if Alex has made a mistake in heading to far west. He has slipped to 17th place in the IMOCA class and is way north of the pack.

Re: Transat Jacques Vabray

Not a mistake.
A low presure system on the axores will block them if they don't go around it on it's north side.
Then they will turn sout west.

Interesting comparing their courses with Windy predictions, Alex may get beam winds wed, Charal will be the one for him to beat.

Re: Transat Jacques Vabray

I know about the low but it seems to have moved a bit to the west or remained stationary. To go around it is very long distance and in the meantime they have fallen over 100 kn miles behind the leader. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Re: Transat Jacques Vabray

The position reports are based on the great-circle distance of the boat to the finish line. So early on in the race this means not much, but better then nothing.

Re: Transat Jacques Vabray

You might find the Tracker from Hugo Boss is better because it has a different Weather overlay as well as some other tools.
