I came here looking for this info and was surprised that there was no sticky for something like this.

I did the obvious search and mostly what I found was other threads saying, "This comes up a lot, you should search."

I'm new to the sport/adventure and in fact haven't even settled on a boat yet, but the wife and I attend to liveaboard (her immediately in NOLA and I to join her in a few years maybe on another better boat to do real cruising).

In the mean time we will need to learn "all there is to know" about sailing.

I've been watching lots of youtube videos but I want to get my hands on some paper!

I'm certain this comes up too often, but a sticky would help that problem.

Strictly cozy ebooks for chicks. Tell your wife about the ebook Yacht Yenta mysteries by Farley Halladay. They're filled with shortcut galley recipes and other cruising lore. Titles are by months such as February Felony.

Re: Top 10 MUST read books for sailing

I'm pleased to see that Hardhead called out Joshua Slocum's Sailing Around the World Alone. I read this book each spring in anticipation of another great summer on the water. Here's a man that kept it simple, enjoyed his sailing immensely, and got it done (multiple times). There is no other better passage than the one about him keeping the unwanted guests off his yacht using thumbtacks.

The Colregs.

Otherwise sailing is not learned from books, it is learned while sailing the miles.

Time on the water, not books.
