"Understanding the problem is half of the solution." Albert Einstein.

I don't know anything about the ICW, just post a screenshot of the achorages in question to quiet the internet experts.

Look JT, if you actually took the time to read what I write, you'd see you are fighting a ghost of your own creation. I've NEVER said a manual windlass is best in all circumstances. I've REPEATEDLY said, on balance, I believe it is the best option for me. And I've given reasons. Others can weigh the pros and cons differently and come to different conclusions.

Now, please, give it a rest.

Crazy seems a lttle strong, perhaps just more inexperienced/uninformed; or then again, you're perhaps just entertaining yourself with a little troll?
We're still waiting with bated breath, to hear the locations of this vast number of 30-50' deep anchorages that you've discovered in your travels along the ICW

Re: Too Deep Anchorages ???

I'm in a creek just off the ICW a little south of Hilton Head. I dropped the anchor in 27' of water but got confused as to how much scope to put out. Because on CF the "experts" say that's not possible.

So for you "got nothing better to do than argue on the internet" people - carry on!

I think you should put down 150-200'. I can't remember if you argue for or against electric power, so 200' with electric and 150' for manual.

What difference does it make on scope if you have an electric? In the end all you pull up is the depth length.

Huh? You crank the whole time. And just in case the wind might be blowing, and you need to get out of town, you will need to crank in another 50'. If you are you talking about hauling it in by hand, I would want the engine and it wouldn't be that bad. Getting it all back down the hole around the windlass would be the pain.

Re: Too Deep Anchorages ???

One of these days I'm going to learn what I'm doing Then again apparently if I knew that I would find out the the way I've done things for years can't be done.
