There's a Rubber Ring on the Top of the Winch . . .

and they are deteriorated from years of UV.

What is the 'official' name for these puppies? Anyone?

I'd love to find some new ones, I'd have to think they are available generically.

Thanks in advance folks,

Jim

Do those aftermarket addons work? I have a mixture of ST and nonST winches and upgrading for $45 is definitely much better than having to replace the whole winch...

I have used them with great success on small boats for years. A friend with a Sceptre 36 uses them and is very happy. Cheap upgrade.

Yes, it is cheap when you consider the price of a new ST winch which could be in the hundreds or thousands. Thanks.

Re: There's a Rubber Ring on the Top of the Winch . . .

I have Self Tailer Winchers on my halyard winches and yes, they work. My sails aren't very heavy, so I don't need the winches for hoisting them in normal conditions.

The Winchers come in handy when I need both hands on the handle for hoisting something heavier than a sail. But it is necessary to wrap turns on the whole height of the winch (maybe 5 turns), to wedge the halyard under the Wincher. This is less convenient than a true self tailing winch, but much cheaper.

You should try tailing hooks. Ihave used them on my Alberg 30 for years. Find them at tailinghook.com.
