Timely subject, I was on the way back down the mast this AM after going aloft for one last inspection of the new rigging...passed a few smudges of blood....apparently I made my donation on the way up. 😆

Bloodletting? I have just been dealing with insurance renewal. It is my blood being spilt. certainly not the insurance company's. They seemed intent on pursuing the last drop.
When you see the large insurance office building and the happy shareholders, it reminds me of what is meant by a "blood bank".

My wife cleaned the cockpit today and somehow cut herself at the start.

Today I adjust the valves and changed the engine antifreeze and no blood was given. Everything seems fine, but I'm wondering I might have forgotten to do.

I must be in for a great season this coming spring, on the last day as we were taking down the canvas to allow the winterizing people to get her ready for the freeze, I was taking the last piece off a rail and the rail swung down and jammed my right ring finger.

There was blood everywhere and my finger nail just popped off.

After the cursing and name calling, I now await the season to arrive.

Ouch, and did you notice how often you hit that digit without the nail!?? I always try to wear gloves, but even then the blood letting has to be done.

Oh, man, that must have been REALLY unpleasant! Mega ouch! I hope that blood letting paid it forward, not just getting revenge for past mis-deeds.

When I was a boy, my sailor step father suggested a knuckle skin box to contain offerings for future use. More often than not blood would have been included. As I have become older, and thinner skinned (physically) I have discovered that mechanics' gloves actually do help -a lot.

Blood alone is seldom enough to ensure good omens into the future, at least one square inch of knuckle skin is also required and of course one should never overlook a generous application of both blasphemy and profanity.

No repair work involved in this one.
I found myself in the middle of a dogfight.....on a boat....barefoot. A week later, when we arrived home, they had taken a light purple tone. I still don't know why someone would bring their dog to visit us on the boat????
