The future for fresh water ? Hope so...

This looks promising!

The video shows it is gravity feed which means you just fill the top tank and away you go. Buy your filters, 50lt per day no more to pay. Hardly any more weight, no expensive pressure pumps, almost no maintenance, no power consumption.

We need some more details like cost and life span of an A4 sheet and ummmmmm, that's it.

Take my money.....

Dang, 1st the video won't play and now Stu's link wants me to subscribe for a fee.

I was excited to find out how they would move the water thru without pressure pumps. Guess I will have to wait until it comes out in a format I can view in the FL Keys.

A regular topic of discussion every time there is another press release from a University on further developments in graphene filtration. If you are interested, here's a few previous threads on the same subject"

For those of you who are blocked from that media site, under the "fair use doctrine", relevant extracts from the article:
CSIRO scientists have unveiled

...
Dubbed “GraphAir”, it is adapted from the Nobel prize-winning wonder substance graphene —

...
A test run, using water from Sydney Harbour, produced “very pure” drinking-quality H2O.
The team is now looking for industry partners to scale up production and trial the technology overseas.

...
Last year, the CSIRO announced it had developed a cheap way of manufacturing graphene from soybean oil. Now the team has infused it with “nano-*channels” big enough to let water molecules through, but small enough to block the likes of salt, detergent or oil compounds.
The researchers found that a 4sq cm strip of GraphAir could purify half a litre of Sydney Harbour water a day. They plan to produce A4-sized sheets,

...

Applications could range from industrial-scale desalination
...

Re: The future for fresh water ? Hope so...

Thanks for the links, very interesting. Now the question is just how long we have to wait before it becomes financially reasonable for us?

I do like what I read!

For those outside Australia........C.S.I.R.O.......is the abbreviation of......

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.

......which is an Australian Commonwealth Government organisation which develops products and researches almost anything......and may undertake required research under contract......as well as licencing new innovation.

As such statements and products developed are trustworthy.

Graphene will make the old RO systems obsolete. Happy to see it getting to the market so quickly. Wait till they make graphene hulls. Pretty amazing stuff.

The video says two to three years before they do larger scale testing in the field (I think).

And by the way, the CSIRO invented Wifi.

Be handy, we could then just pump the fresh water that filtered through into the water tank rather than over the side.

How's the Yanny holding up Sailorchic.
